* Responsive Reading         Psalm 118:14-20

The Lord is my strength and my power; the Lord has become my salvation.

There are joyous songs of victory in the tents of the righteous:

The right hand of the Lord does valiantly, the right hand of the Lord is exalted,

The right hand of the Lord does valiantly!

I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord.

The Lord has chastened me sorely, but has not given me over to death.

Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.

This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it.

* Reading                                  Psalm 46:1-6, 1-11

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Therefore, we will not fear though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;

Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.

God is in the midst of the city which shall not be moved; God will help it at the dawn of the day.

The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; God’s voice resounds, the earth melts.

“Be still, and know that I Am God. I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth!”

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

* Responsive Reading                Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18

O Lord, you have searched me and known me!

You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.

You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it altogether.

You pursue me behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it.

For it was you who formed my inward parts,

You knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for you are fearful and wonderful.

Wonderful are your works!

You know me very well;

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes beheld my unformed substance;

In your book were written the days that were formed for me, every day, before they came into being.

How profound to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

If I would count them, they are more than the sand. When I awake, I am still with you.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord! Lord, hear my voice!

Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be worshiped.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, in the Lord’s word I hope;

My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.

O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, with the Lord is plenteous redemption.

And the Lord will redeem Israel from all iniquities.

* Responsive Reading                 Psalm 40:1-8

I put all my hope in the Lord.

He leaned down to me; he listened to my cry for help.

He lifted me out of the pit of death, out of the mud and filth,

And set my feet on solid rock. He steadied my legs.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise for our God.

Many people will learn of this and be amazed; they will trust the Lord.

Those who put their trust in the Lord,

Who pay no attention to the proud or to those who follow lies, are truly happy!

You, Lord my God! You’ve done so many things – your wonderful deeds and your plans for us – no one can compare with you!

If I were to proclaim and talk about all of them, they would be too numerous to count!

You don’t relish sacrifices or offerings;

You don’t require entirely burned offerings or compensation offerings – but you have given me ears!

So I said, “Here I come! I’m inscribed in the written scroll.

I want to do your will, my God. Your Instruction is deep within me.”

*Responsive Reading                 Psalm 88:3-12                                                                          Pastor Randy

My whole being is filled with distress; my life is at the very brink of hell.

I am considered as one of those plummeting into the pit. I am like those who are beyond help,

Drifting among the dead lying in the grave, like dead bodies

Those you don’t remember anymore, those who are cut off from your power.

You placed me down in the deepest pit, in places dark and deep.

Your anger smothers me; you subdue me with it, wave after wave.

You’ve made my friends distant. You’ve made me disgusting to them. I can’t escape. I’m trapped!

My eyes are tired of looking at my suffering. I’ve been calling out to you every day, Lord

I’ve had my hands outstretched to you!

Do you work wonders for the dead? Do ghosts rise up and give you thanks?

Is your faithful love proclaimed in the grave, your faithfulness in the underworld?

Are your wonders known in the land of darkness, your righteousness in the land of oblivion?

Morning Prayer
